A tractor towing a trailer caught fire on the old A30 near Ottery St Mary on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 9.
The fire broke out near the Talaton turn-off of the A30, between Fairmile and Straightway Head.
No-one was injured, the police said.
Officers closed the road around 1.45pm, causing heavy traffic in the area.
Fire crews from Ottery St Mary, Middlemoor and Danes Castle attended.
On arrival, crews confirmed this to be a tractor and trailer fire, with the vehicle well alight.
In addition, there was a fuel run off that caused a running fuel fire which caught about 20 metres of hedgerow alight.
