Heartbroken family search for horse that disappeared from field near Helston

The family has been searching across the area on foot and they say they are worried that six-year-old Welsh pony Nessa might have been hit by a car and be lying hurt somewhere.

She vanished from her field at Carnkie on Monday, Christmas Eve, despite all of the gates being locked and chained, her owner said.

The black mare is a much-loved family horse and her owner Rosie Brown has asked people in the area to keep their eyes open for Nessa, who was last seen wearing a red rug.

Nessa is Microchipped.

Rosie said: “We’ve had her from a foal and she lives at my gran’s at the top of Carnkie.

“She’d been in a field with two other ponies and we just don’t know what’s happened. Somehow she’s got out, but all the gates were locked and chained and she’s the only one to have disappeared.

“There’s a possibility she could have jumped one of the old Cornish hedges. It’s either that or someone has led her out, but we don’t want to jump to conclusions. It’s just all a bit strange.

“We’re distraught. My two girls are really fond of her and miss her so much."

Rosie said the family was “worried sick” and were scared she may be lying in a ditch after being hit by a car.

Rosie added: “Nessa could have gone towards Stithians reservoir or back towards the village. Please call me on 07814 926537 if there are any sightings. She's a very sweet mare and would probably come if you called and is normally easy to catch, but she might be scared.”

The family has searched miles on foot around the area, they have not found any sightings of hoof prints or dung that could lead to finding Nessa.

The family are asking for everyone to keep their eyes peeled locally in fields, woodlands or any areas where she maybe grazing and to also keep a look out on Facebook selling sites in fear that she may have been taken.

The family has the horse's passport and she is microchipped, so will be able to be returned should she be scanned.
