(34) UTM & (7) OTM Prime Cattle
Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a very short entry of 41 prime cattle, when many more could have been sold to advantage, met an excellent trade. Best cattle very dear to 216.5ppk for a quality red Limousin heifer (533kg) from J & S Vinnicombe & Son, Ottery St Mary, which sold to Palmers Quality Butchers, Weston Super Mare. Very well fed suckler bred Simmental at 201.5ppk from T Samuel, Exeter to The Meat Men, Ilminster. Another best type Limousin heifer (558kg) also at 201.5ppk from J & S Vinnicombe & Son again. Well fed dairy bred Blue heifers at 195.5, 191, 189 and 188ppk from MP & DM Hine, Chard. Other better heifers 180ppk plus.
Steers peaked at 210.5ppk for a very well fed Limousin from T Samuel, who sold another similar at 205.5ppk. Best Limousin steer at 207ppk from J & S Vinnicombe & Son. Native steers rose to 184ppk for a South Devon from R & G Speed, Axminster. Lightweight Hereford at 181.5ppk from JW Triggol, Clevedon.
Steers sold to £1,488.62 for a huge Simmental (868kg) from DJ & AM Morris, Northleigh. 785kg South Devon at £1,444.40 from R & G Speed, Axminster. 803kg Angus at £1,429.34 from CG, GR & MS Spiller, Upottery. Top drawer Limousin steers at £1,410.35 (670kg) and £1,401.51 (682kg) from T Samuel, Exeter.

Heifers sold to an exceptional £1,411.43 for a 765kg Charolais from CG, GR & MS Spiller again, who sold another 652kg at £1,215.98. Well fleshed 18m Simmental at £1,243.26 from T Samuel again. Dairy bred Blue at £1,216.01 from MP & DM Hine. Another big Charolais (758kg) at £1,209.01 from CH Champion & Partners, Highbridge.
61 BARREN COWS & CULL STOCK BULLS
Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a slightly bigger entry of 61 barren cows and a slightly dearer trade. No absolute best types to hit former highs, yet 116.5ppk was achieved on four occasions.
Younger (40m & FA) Limousin cow at 116.5ppk from R Chaddock, Glastonbury, who sold an Angus at 115.5ppk and a Devon at 114.5ppk. Young (44m & NA) Blue cow also at 116.5ppk from Hanchard Farming Partnership, Cheddar. Further Blue cow at 116.5ppk again from DH & SM Churchill, South Chard. Pure bred Devon at 114.5ppk (43m & NA) from T Eames, Cotley.
Sucklers sold to £870.63 for a Hereford from Hanchard Farming Partnership.
Dairy breeds also to 116.5ppk for a well fleshed Holstein from Newley Farm, Taunton, who sold another at 113.5ppk. Good meat Holstein at 115.5ppk from Stowell Bros, Churchstanton. Others 115.5 and 114.5ppk, R & J Jones & Son, Stogursey; 113.5 (2x) and 109.5ppk, J Read & Co, Taunton; 113.5ppk, New Farm Bowdens Ltd, Langport and 109.5ppk, SJ Perry, East Worlington.
Dairy breeds sold to the day’s top of £993.13 from New Farm Bowdens Ltd. Others £981.78 and £885.40, Newley Farm; £933.24, R & J Jones & Son; £924, Stowell Bros and £872.72, £851.25 and £841.04 J Read & Co.
1070 FINISHED LAMBS
Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a much larger entry of 1070 lambs sold to a more difficult trade, particularly for the heavier thicker lambs. The best however, were keenly contested and sold to 220, 219, 213 and 211ppk from J Hallett. Others 209ppk from TP & JA Cole; 208ppk from CJ & JLM Hutchings & Sons and 206ppk from G Rowe Farm Partners.
Heavier lambs sold to £100 and £99 from SJ Millard. Others £98 from JP Tolley; £97 and £95.50 from TH Dyer; £95.50 from PJ Holloway and £95 from Milborne Wick Farms Ltd and Z Hemborough. Overall average £86.95.
