A much improved number of finished cattle forward this week meeting strong demand and an increased trade across the board.
Top price per kilo was 224p (£1,308) for a 584kg Limousin x heifer from Messrs. W.H. & L.M. Williams & Son of Allet; with top value just dearer at £1,310 for a 601kg Limousin x from Mr. A. Mann of Budock Water, both bought by J.V. Richards Ltd of Perranwell Station.
Another Limousin x heifer a good price at 223p/kg for Messrs. R.H. & C.D. Care of St. Buryan purchased by R.J. Trevarthen Ltd of Roskrow.
Top steer was a grand 746kg Limousin x for Messrs. P.R. & T. Eustice of Crantock at 215p/kg realising a huge price of £1,604 to David King of Exeter.

Topping at £1,170 were top trio of 19 month old South Devon x steers from Mr. C. Eustice of Cubert, with a pair a month older from Mr. T.G. Hawke of Colan at £1,140.
Top trio of young South Devon steers in from the Gwealavellan Partners dispersal hit £920 including one at just 8 months old; older heifers from the same farm to an overall top of £1,050, with bunch of four 18-19 month old heifers at £965.
Four Limousin x 8 month old suckled heifers in from Messrs. H. Williams & Son of Tehidy realised £605.

SUCKLER SALE

Following the stores, Lodge & Thomas were delighted to conduct the herd dispersal sale on behalf of the Bowden Family of Gwealavellan Partners of Gwithan, Hayle.
Due to change in farming policy, this genuine sale saw the dispersal of their fine herd of South Devon sucker cows and calves together with two pedigree bulls with many buyers in attendance seeking animals from this long-established line.
Many pairs of cows with calves at foot in the £1,600 to £1,800 bracket but topping at £1,900 for a 5½ year old cow with six month old steer calf at foot PD’d 4-5 months back in-calf to the Polkinghorne bull.
A further two outfits at £1,880 including for a heifer with May-born steer at foot.
In-calvers cows sold to a top of £1,120 for one March 2017 born, and the younger of the stock bulls on offer Polkinghorne Willowman at 7½ years old realised £1,060.
Other nice Limousin breeding bulls forward sold to a top call of £1,800 for a two year old pedigree bull from Mr. Paul Julian of Summercourt, Newquay.
