A new farm shop and café says it has enjoyed brisk trade in the first six months of trading after throwing open its doors in April.
The success of Trevithick & Trays Farm Shop & Café near St Austell has pleased owners Alison and Paddy Talen who turned their dream of running such an establishment into reality earlier this year.
Alison said: "It perhaps wasn’t the best time to set up a new business during the early months of this year, but we’ve been very busy with locals and visitors alike calling into buy produce from the farm shop and stop for a treat in the cafe, it has exceeded all of our expectations so far.
"The shop’s name comes come from my grandmothers’ maiden names.
"I’m from a Cornish farming family, we farmed at Rescorla and my grandparents on both sides were farmers.
"Our family bought River Valley, next door, 27 years ago."
Located at London Apprentice, just off the main road from St Austell to Mevagissey the business offers a wide selection of quality food and drink products mainly sourced from Cornwall and the Westcountry.
The range on offer includes Cornish meats, eggs, conserves, sauces, fresh local artisan breads, seasonal fruit and vegetables.
There’s also a wide selection of products for suitable for those with a gluten free or vegan diet.
Shoppers are also spoilt for choice with a selection of local ciders, beers, wines, and spirits available from producers such as St Austell Brewery, Knightor Winery and Colwith Farm Distillery.
The café, which has proven a real hit, serves up hot drinks and tantalising homemade cakes as well as a menu containing light breakfasts and lunches.
It offers indoor seating and a dog friendly outdoor dining area, perfect for sunny days and offers baby changing and accessible toilet facilities.
"We’re super convenient for walkers, runners and cyclists who use the Pentewan Trail which passes very close to us,” adds Alison.
"They are usually keen to refuel with a hot drink and slice of cake whilst on their travels on the trail."
Late night Christmas shopping evenings are being held on Friday 10 and Friday 17 December when a selection of local crafters will also be present.
Their Christmas wreath making evenings have already sold out.
"We’re looking forward to a busy Christmas period, we’re already taking orders for Treway Farm Turkeys and offer our own gift vouchers.
"A warm welcome awaits our customers and we’re looking forward to even more locals discovering us in the coming months."
