Devon's young farmers and their friends have created a cheeky calendar with the (naked) ambition to raise as much money as possible for a charity close to their hearts.

After one of the young farmers was diagnosed with a brain tumour this summer, friends decided to bare all for a good cause.

The result, The Naked Calendar, has already made more than £5,000 for Brain Tumour Research, a charity pushing to find a cure for brain tumours.

Ex-young farmer and professional photographer Cat Down co-ordinated the project and took the photos.

She said: "I asked people on Facebook if they would be willing to take part and before I knew it, 84 people responded saying they'd be interested.

South West Farmer:

"Many said that they weren't sure as they were self-conscious, but I reassured them that there was no pressure and that I could take the photos and they could then decide if they wanted them included in the calendar or not.

"Being naked is a very personal thing and it's not easy to take your clothes off in the middle of a field.

"There were cars coming by, stopping and tooting their horns.

"In fact, many of the people I photographed said it was liberating to have done the shoot.

"In this sense, the knock-on positivity of the calendar has been amazing."

South West Farmer:

The strapline to the calendar is 'Living our best lives' and this reflects the attitude of the recently diagnosed friend.

Cat said: "Our friend has been such an inspiration to us all.

"After being diagnosed at 29 years old, they said that they are not going to let this beat them.

"They even recently bought some calves, they're doing everything, with the mantra 'live every day as if it is your last, take every opportunity you have and look after those around you'.

South West Farmer:

"When we suggested the calendar, they said "Well, no-one's going to get their kit off" but actually more than 80 people did!

"This is a typical rural community response - we may be spread far and wide, but when we need to, we pull together."

There are 60 sponsors who between them covered the print costs and 2,500 calendars were made.

The calendars - a great Christmas gift - cost £12.50 and are available to order via the website livingourbestlives.co.uk, as well as at shops around Devon, listed on the facebook page here.
