A driver who thought that because he had off-road tyres he could drive anywhere had to be towed out of mud by a local farmer.
He was found knee-deep in mud with his Land Rover stuck in deep mud and wedged against a wall, writes Douglas Whitbread of SWNS.
The novice 'Green Lane' motorist received a police warning after becoming bogged down in a field near Sheffield, Yorkshire.
The man told officers he had originally bought his Land Rover 4x4 vehicle to transport his dogs and believed as it had off-road tyres, he could “go anywhere”.
But after he became wedged against a stone wall, the red-faced driver had to call for help from a farmer, who then pulled him to safety in his tractor.
Police told the foolish motorist that if he was found committing a similar act again in the next 12 months, his vehicle could be seized.
Sheffield Northwest Neighbourhood Policing Team said they released the photos of the stricken motorist to warn others against this type of driving in the future.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The Green Lane in this photo is well known to responsible off-road drivers as a boggy mess with deep ruts and impassable features, however, some find the challenge too alluring.
“The driver of this Land Rover, who stated he had only bought it to transport his dogs, was a novice Green Lane and off-road driver but thought that because he had a Land Rover with off-road tyres, he could go anywhere.
“He was wrong and ultimately had to beg a local farmer to pull him out.
“He was also issued with a warning regarding his antisocial driving and if found to be committing a similar act within the next 12 months in this or another vehicle he will have that vehicle seized by Police.
“Please take heed that this Green Lane is not passable as it stands and if we catch anyone driving on it and causing issues or damage to the walls at the side of it, we will take action against that driver and vehicle.
“Please stay away and use other more suitable Green Lanes in a sensible manner."
