Just weeks after the first £3,000 commercial heifer was recorded at Sedgemoor, the record was smashed again.
Geoff Morgan of Tewksbury sold a heifer for £3,480.
The heifer was bought from Sedgemoor as a calf and was bred from the famed Hinton Herd of Robert Horton, of Wiltshire.
She recently scored VG87 as a two-year-old and, helped along by bidding online, as well as two telephone bidders, she was eventually secured by John Gardener of Cornwall, bidding at the ringside on behalf of a client.
On the same day commercial heifers sold up to £2,750 for another regular vendor, Adrian Churchill.
Auctioneer, Derek Biss said: “Sedgemoor’s dairy section is renowned as being one of the largest weekly markets in the country averaging almost 80 head over the last 12 months with vendors from across the entire south west of England, Wales, Wiltshire, Surrey, Norwich and further afield.
“This allows the buyers to know that there is always a good choice of cattle on offer and the trade has been strong all through the spring and summer.”
The weekly market operated by Greenslade Taylor Hunt, takes place every Saturday at Sedgemoor Auction Centre off the M5 at Junction 24.
