Nearly 50 acres of crop stubbles caught fire in Devon yesterday (Tuesday, August 30), causing a National Trust property to close.
The fire broke out in a field in Coleton Fishacre area, near Kingswear, leading to eight fire crews from across the region being mobilised just after midday.
The farmer "greatly assisted" the situation by ploughing fire breaks into the field to prevent the fire spreading further, said firefighters.
The Coleton Fishacre house and gardens were closed for the rest of the afternoon while firefighters tackled the extensive fire.
A spokesperson for Buckfastleigh Fire Station said: "Today just after midday we were mobilised to provide stand by duties at Paignton however on route we were then diverted to a make pumps eight standing crops fire in the Coleton Fishacre area.
"We joined colleagues from surrounding stations to extinguish approximately 44 acres of crop stubble on fire.
"During the incident we were greatly assisted by a farmer who ploughed fire breaks into the field to prevent further spread."
Crews remained in the field during the afternoon checking for hot spots.
The National Trust's Coleton Fishacre house and gardens announced that it would be open again today
