A log cabin straight out of a fairytale was the deserved star of a property auction in Ilminster.
Greenslade Taylor Hunt enjoyed a successful day’s work under the hammer at the Shrubbery Hotel, with properties on auction ranging from the log cabin, to a chapel, to a garage.
The log cabin in Upottery Honiton is the very definition of a hidden gem, tucked away in half an acre of secluded woodland.
The two-bedroom cabin has far-reaching valley views and the potential for modernisation or a re-build subject to the necessary consents.
As such, it proved to be an attractive proposition to many bidders.
The vendors had lived in the property for 40 years, having re-located from Essex to live out their rural dream breeding budgies.
Unsurprisingly this unique property created a wide range of interest from eager would-be buyers, with the hammer finally falling at £360,000.
Auctioneer Justin Lowe MRICS, who conducted the sale, reported that buyers were sanguine and saw the merits of purchasing and investing in west country property.
A former chapel, Beulah House in Seavington St Mary, which had come to the market for the first time in 55 years went under the hammer at £340,000.
Downside, a landmark historic building in North Street, Langport, requiring complete modernisation, but with the potential to create a stunning residence sold for £150,000.
Finally - and less romantic - creating a great deal of local interest was a useful workspace at East Street in Ilminster. The garage, with workspace above, went to a local buyer, who intends to use the premises as his artist’s studio, for £69,000.
The next property auction will be on Wednesday October 26 at the Shrubbery Hotel, Ilminster, from 2pm. For more information about the lots on offer contact the Yeovil office of Greensalde Taylor Hunt on 01935 423474.
