A video shared by fire crews shows flames from a burning haystack being fanned towards an even larger stack by strong winds near Shaftesbury on Saturday (October 26).
Just after midday the fire service was called with reports of a fire in the open near Semley Common. Two crews were sent from Shaftesbury together with a Land Rover pump from Blandford.
They found half of a large stack of around 100 bales of hay well alight. The burning haystack was close to another large stack, and strong gusts were fanning the flames towards it.
Another fire was mobilised from Gillingham along with a water carrier from Blandford.
Firefighters used two main jets and a hose reel jet to fight the fire while two tractors from the farm were put to work moving bales.

Sharing the video on social media, a spokesperson for Gillingham Fire Station wrote: "If you see a lot of smoke in the Semley area, we’re dealing with a fire involving a large quantity of baled hay. The fire will burn out under control so the smoke will continue for a while. If you’re concerned, please keep doors and windows closed."
