Five animals died in a barn fire on Dartmoor last night.
At half past nine yesterday evening (Tuesday) fire crews were called to the barn fire in Aliceford.
The large barn was holding livestock and machinery.
Fire engines from Okehampton and one from Hatherleigh were mobilised, along with a water carrier from Plympton.
When the crews arrived, they found that the barn was well alight so they requested a further two fire engines from Tavistock and a command support unit from Totnes.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used two compressed air foam jets and two main jets to tackle the fire.
By 12.45am the incident was scaled back to two engines and a water carrier.
By 3am crews were dampening down hotspots and by 7.30am all pockets of fire had been extinguished and crews left at just after 9am.
Sadly, five animals died in the fire.
The fire is believed to have been accidental.
