THE 75th Bridgwater & District Agricultural Society Ploughing Match took place at the weekend.
Chairman Clive Bethell said despite the wet weekend, the weather on Saturday (September 16) stayed mostly dry and they had a successful ploughing match at Park Farm in North Petherton.
There were 103 ploughmen in total, with horses from all over the country. There were 17 classes in the competition, ranging from novice to high cut.
There was also a growing competition during the day, with a focus on maize, wheat, barley and even the largest pumpkin.
This year was the first time the Bridgwater & District Agricultural Society used a GPS to mark out and peg the field. Usually the process takes four days, but this year it took just five hours.
There were also trade stands and food available during the day.
Clive said he 'loves' being part of the ploughing matches and is also part of the British National Ploughing Championships on October 14 and 15.

"We had no complaints, all the ploughmen said they enjoyed the day," he said.
"Thank you to Cavaliers Carnival Club for providing food for the spectators, ploughmen and judges.
"Thank you to the committee and our sponsors and to all those who gave a hand.
"A big thank you to our chief steward and vice chief steward, it was their first year and they did very well."
