A TRACTOR was completely destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon (October 17).
Two fire engines from Ivybridge and one from Crownhill were sent to the vehicle on fire in a field, at a farm in Bittaford, near Ivybridge, around 12:30pm.
Crews were on scene for a few hours putting out the blaze, and a crew returned later on after one of the tyres caught fire again due to a hotspot.
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews remained on scene for a few hours firefighting as the vehicle was well alight and totally destroyed by fire.
"A re-attendance was required after one of the tyres caught fire again due to a hotspot, which our Ivybridge crew dealt with immediately and as a result of possible further hotspots a reinspection was done in the evening.
"Crews used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and compressed air foam to extinguish the fire, which was confirmed to have started accidentally. Duty of care has been left with the owner."
