A PODCAST focused specifically on farming in the south west began earlier this year.
Farming insurance company, Cornish Mutual, launched Farming Focus, a podcast designed to help grow farm resilience. The aim is to 'answer the hard questions' and 'stimulate new ways of thinking'.
"We know what concerns farmers and the podcast is another way we are working to support them,” said Peter Beaumont, managing director at Cornish Mutual.
“Farming Focus is the newest part of our Future Farming Programme, equipping farmers with the knowledge and solutions to face the future.”
The podcast is published fortnightly on a Tuesday morning. It is hosted by Cornish farmer and businessman, Peter Green.
“As a farmer, I love a podcast," he said.
"While I’m working around the farm, whether on the tractor or putting out electric fences, it’s an easy and convenient way to gain new knowledge.”
The first series is now complete - and the team are looking forward a new series, set to start in the new year.
The first ten-episode series covered all sorts of topics, from mindset, rural crime and farm safety to soil health, carbon and regenerative agriculture.
Indepdendent experts and farmers from the south west have appeared on the podcast. Wadebridge farmer Mike Roberts described how he went from using over three artic loads of fertiliser a year to none when he made soil the centre of his farm operations.
The new series, which starts on Tuesday, January 9, asks what farmers can do to put themselves and their farms in the best possible place for what lies ahead.
It is set to include episodes on: family-run farms; diversification; personal wellbeing; future-proofing your land and adding value to primary produce. There will also be additional bonus episodes on more specific topics.
