THERE has been flooding up and down the south west thanks to Storm Henk.

In Wiltshire, there has been serious flooding in Bradford on Avon which was described as the worst seen since the 1980s. And in Trowbridge, some drivers were forced to abandon their vehicles at the Brook Road roundabout and residents had to wade through the floods to get home following an evening out.

The Environment Agency said the flood warning there could be upgraded to ‘severe’ after further rainfall overnight led to flooding of some of the town’s main roads. Upgrading the warning could mean there is a risk to life.

Elsewhere in the region, river levels remain high and flood warnings are in place across Dorset

Weymouth Town Council announced yesterday (January 4) that they have activated the Weymouth Town Council Community Emergency Plan. Sandbags are available for people with houses that are at risk from flooding.

There are also various flood warnings in Cornwall, with Cornwall Council warning residents that rivers could cause flooding to low-lying roads.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “We expect rivers to remain high into Friday, though no flooding to properties is currently forecast.

“Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.

“We are monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for and clearing blockages.”

In Somerset, emergency services dealt with a variety of incidents due to the flooding, including properties being flooded, cars stuck in flood water and roads being closed due to flooding.
