YOUNG farmers from Cornwall took a trip to Newquay on March 1 for the South West Area Weekend competitions.
Sophie Olds, who is a member of Cornwall YFC, stood as the South West Area Chairman and organised the event.
Molly Thomas (from St Columb), Chloe Scott (from Roche) and Pippa Rundle (from St Mabyn) came second in the Junior Public Speaking competition, with Chloe taking the spot of best speaker.
Molly Rundle (from St Columb) came third in the Junior Member of the Year competition, while Milly Bersey (from Landrake) also came third in the Senior Member of the Year competition.
Other notable results included:
- Situations Vacant 16-21: Will Matthews, Roche, came third
- Situations Vacant 22-28: Beth Bosley, Camelford, came second
- Intermediate Brainstrust: Ellie Rundle, Jess Dally, Christina Merritt, Bryony Highmore (St Mabyn), came second
- Debating: Ed Hosken, Tom Pearce, Chelsea Gilbert, James Bloomfield, Lowri Lougher (Helston & St Keverne), came second
- Drama: Ed Hosken, James Bloomfield, Ryan Benney, Lowri Lougher, Shannon McMillan (Helston & St Keverne), came third
- Show Choir: Sophie Olds (Madron), Milly Bersey (Landrake), Becky Howard (Wadebridge), Beth Bosley (Camelford), Jordan Edyvean, Claudia Edyvean, Aeryn Cooke, Marley Lamerton (Roche), Lara Hennings, Rhiannon Willey, Ollie Pearce, Mollie Chilcott, Betty Buchanan (Helston & St Keverne), came third
A spokesperson for Cornwall YFC said: "What a fantastic weekend we had at South West Area, held in Newquay - particularly special this year with our very own Sophie Olds standing as SWA Chairman.
"Congratulations to the following members who did a fantastic job at representing Cornwall over the weekend, returning home with prizes across the board and good luck to those heading to the national finals!
"Also, a huge well done to members from Helston & St Keverne who cycled from Helston to Newquay in aid of their chosen charities this year."
