WOOLSERY Young Farmers’ Club (YFC) from the Tarka Group is going from strength to strength as their membership continues to grow.
Last year at the Devon YFC County AGM, Woolsery picked up the trophy for the club with the highest overall increase in club membership. This has continued into 2024, with the club now being the second largest out of all 37 clubs across the county.
From carnival floats and football tournaments, to farm tours and fun social events, there has been a lot to get involved with as a member of Woolsery YFC.
Charlie Johns, Woolsery YFC’s Club Secretary, says: “A large proportion of our membership work in farming, so our agri-focussed activities always prove the most popular.
“Alongside other members from Tarka group, we recently had a tour of the Risdon Feed Mill near Okehampton courtesy of Cropmech and Mole Valley Farmers. It was eye-opening learning about the grain storage and their blending plant, as well as hearing talks on haulage, wood chipping and more.”
Woolsery have a large variety of different age groups within the club and make sure they run activities that appeal to all ages.
Charlie adds: “One of the best ways to bring the whole club together is through our club’s carnival float. We’re already planning our carnival float for 2024, with the first carnival of the season taking place this August in Hartland.
“It has also been great to see our members supporting lots of events throughout Tarka group, such as the recent pub sports tournament. We were proud to see our very own Grace Dennis go all the way to the Devon County Pool Finals and win first place!
“Organising events and activities that all members enjoy, whatever their age, is really important. We have a club social to the ‘air extreme’ trampoline park coming soon, with lots more fun socials in the pipeline.”
If you’re aged 10 to 28, there are 37 YFC clubs across the county of Devon that are always happy to welcome new members. To join your local YFC club, take a look at the Devon YFC website – www.devonyfc.co.uk.
