AN early breeding sale of Exmoor Horns is set to take place next month.
The sale, which is a new event run by the Exmoor Horn Sheep Breeders Society, is taking place on Friday, August 23 at Cutcombe Market, near Minehead.
Partnering with Exmoor Farmers, the event will feature many show rams and females, as well as entries from non-show flocks. There won't be any judging at the sale, but there will be a parade of rams at 4pm before the sale at 5pm.
The deadline for entries to the sale is August 2.
Ben Blackmore, Exmoor Horn Sheep Breeders Society chairman, said: "Our main show and sale is in late September, but that is too late for people to buy a ram for the season. So this is a new sale we are trying, hopefully it will be a success.
"Not everyone wants to buy pens of five or 20, so anyone can come to the sale and buy what they want. I am sure we will get stock of all different shapes and sizes."
The sale will include a judging demonstration and an 'Introduction to Exmoor Horns' workshop. The cafe will be open and serving food during the event.
