Sarah Dyke, the MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, is backing this year's Farm Safety Week.

The 2024 event, which takes place from July 22 to 26, marks 10 years of the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies).

It is an important focus of the farming calendar, supported by more than 400 partners in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Earlier this year, Ms Dyke co-hosted a parliamentary event with the Farm Safety Foundation to promote its Mind Your Head campaign on farmers' mental health.

She joined a panel of politicians and industry leaders to discuss farm safety and mental wellbeing.

This year's Farm Safety Week will once again put the spotlight on the key challenges farmers and farm workers face every day, highlighting the dangers of ignoring near-misses.

Sarah Dyke, MP for Glastonbury and Somerton, said: "I’m very proud to continue working alongside the Farm Safety Foundation to raise awareness of these issues.

"Being able to have an open discussion about farmers’ physical safety and mental wellbeing is tremendously important.

"By challenging the agricultural industry’s safety behaviours and changing its poor safety record, we can, together, make a difference, not just for the farmers of today but for the farmers of the future."

Stephanie Berkeley, manager of Farm Safety Foundation, added: "10 years have passed quickly and we are proud of what we have achieved but there is so much more to be done to address the massive challenges we have in the industry.

"Attitudes and behaviours around farm safety and mental health are changing but the pace of change is slow – too slow for the families of those we have lost in the industry and too slow for the thousands of farmers suffering every day with long term ill-health, serious injuries or poor mental health."
