The force told the Journal that at the height of the incident, 11 fire engines (two from Salisbury, and one from Amesbury, Redbridge, St Marys, Verwood, Eastleigh, Christchurch, Stratton, Poole and Hightown), two water carriers (Eastleigh and Andover), four small 4x4 pumping appliances (Ferndown, Hythe, Ringwood and Verwood) and a command support unit (Devizes) were in attendance.

The service added: "The fire was brought under control by the 4x4s and off road appliances with assistance from local farmers and their ploughing equipment. The incident was scaled back just after 6.15pm when just one fire engine and three small 4x4 pumping appliances remained in  attendance, dealing with hotspots.

"Our stop was in at 8.49pm."
