A MAN from Wiltshire has been crowned Young Dairy Vet of the Year.
Will Balhatchet, from George Farm Vets in Malmesbury, was presented with the award at the CREAM awards.
The awards, which are organised by British Dairying magazine, were held in Kenilworth on Thursday, September 5.
Will was recognised for his dedication to improving the health, welfare, and productivity of his clients' dairy herds.
The judges commended him for his ability to offer clear, practical advice, create actionable plans, and solve complex problems for his clients. Among his notable achievements are the development of an embryo transfer service and the launch of a robot discussion group, both of which have had a significant positive impact on dairy farming operations.
Will previously worked as a herdsman in Cornwall, during and before his studies at the Unversity of Surrey.
“It was a real privilege to be named Young Dairy Vet of the Year among so many talented and dedicated farm vets," Will said.
"This achievement is truly a testament to the farmers I work with, whose proactive approach to improving their systems has provided me with countless opportunities to grow in my career.”
The George Vet Group's clients Nick and Lucy Tyler of Kingsplay Farming Company Ltd took home the Climate Positive Agriculture Award. Their 850-acre farm, home to 450 cows and 400 youngstock, was recognised for its innovative efforts to reduce emissions.
The vet group is based in Malmesbury, but provides care across Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, and Bristol.
