UK Dairy Day 2024 drew impressive crowds for its milestone 10th anniversary celebration.

This year’s event, held on Wednesday, September 11, featured over 280 trade stands, showcasing every side of the dairy industry. Notably, 100 of these stands had also participated in the inaugural event in 2014.

The awards for Best Trade Stands were presented as follows: BCW Agriculture received the Best Small Trade Stand Award, Nettex was honoured with the Best Medium Trade Stand Award, KW Feeds earned the Best Large Trade Stand Award, and GLW Feeds won the Best External Trade Stand Award.

The show highlighted over 150 dairy cows in the UK’s largest dairy event of the year, maintaining its status as a key attraction.

Judging was carried out by a distinguished panel, including Marcel Egli from Switzerland for the National Holstein Show, Ian Collins for the National Ayrshire Show and Guernsey classes, Blaise Tomlinson for the National Brown Swiss Show, and Paul Harrison for the Dairy Shorthorn classes.

UK Dairy Day 2024 winners

- Holstein grand champion: Evening Sidekick Jennifer, Evening Holsteins.

- Ayrshire grand champion: Swaites Lois 8, J Adamson & Son.

- Brown Swiss grand champion: Kedar Rhappily Ever After, T Lochhead & Sons.

- Dairy Shorthorn grand champion: Churchroyd Heather 123, IRC Collins & Partners.

- Guernsey grand champion: Kimcote Brogdon Fragrant 8, AD & RM Thomas.

- Jersey grand champion: Rivermead Verdi Pixie, The Davis Family.

Tregibby Holsteins won the Holstein UK premier exhibitor banner, while Wormanby Holsteins took home the premier breeder banner.

Ian Gibson, owner of Boundary Events, received the Howard Sneesby memorial trophy for his significant contribution to the National Holstein Show. His team manages all the essential infrastructure for events like UK Dairy Day.

Industry leaders will soon participate in panels discussing the latest trends and innovations in dairy farming, focusing on costs, culture, and carbon. Recordings and seminar presentations will be available on the event’s website.

Attendees also appreciated the foot trimming and knife sharpening demonstration by Tim Carter, the NBDC classification team’s type classification and linear scoring demos, and the Scarsdale Vet’s ‘beneath the black and white’ calf painting demonstration, which explored twin pregnancies and their management.

The new product competition highlighted 11 finalists, with Hoofcount Ltd winning for PediVue. Oxi-Tech Solutions Ltd received a highly commended award for Pulse Oxidation, and milkrite | InterPuls LTD was given a judges special mention for MIPulse.

Ben Yates, the UK Dairy Day Cattle Show director, remarked: “The atmosphere at UK Dairy Day 2024 has been extremely buoyant, with trade exhibitor feedback being very positive.”
