THIS Autumn, Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFC’s) across the county have been busy preparing for this year’s carnival season, with many members spending their evenings building and painting carnival floats.

Many clubs use the opportunity to build a carnival float as a way for the club to come together, raise money for charity and have lots of fun in the process.

One club taking the carnival season by storm is Buckland Brewer YFC. Their Jurassic Park themed float earned the club first place in the YFC category of Bradworthy carnival, as well as second place in the entertainment category of Hartland Carnival.

Zoe Leigh, Buckland Brewer YFC’s Club Secretary, says: “Carnival season is always a highlight of the year for our club. It’s a way for all ages to get involved.

“Creating the carnival float brings our members together as everyone has different skills that can be incorporated.

“We had some very late nights getting it finished but we have been very proud of the results we have had so far.”

As well as their carnival float success, the club has had an incredibly active year. They have held events such as their Valentine’s Balloon Party, bingo and their 95th anniversary tractor run.

Following success at this year’s Devon County Show, they also went on to win Tarka Group’s Rally where members participated in a whole host of different activities.

Charley Dack, Buckland Brewer YFC Club Chairman, says: “Looking back on the year, it’s amazing to see the variety of different activities we have taken part in.

“Every month we organise a fun meeting as well as a business meeting. From visits to a driving range and the aqua park, to car treasure hunts and first aid training, it’s been very busy.

“As we start the new YFC year, we’re looking forward to welcoming new members to the club.”

You can spot Buckland Brewer YFC’s carnival float at Hatherleigh and Holsworthy carnival this November.

Look out for the dinosaur costumes and flying helicopter!

If you’re aged 10 to 28, there are 37 YFC clubs across the county of Devon that are always happy to welcome new members.
