TRAINS were significantly delayed after a tractor struck a barrier at a level crossing in Wool.

Passengers and motorists were delayed on their journey after a tractor crashed into the level crossing at Wool Railway Station, damaging a barrier.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “At 4.40pm on Wednesday 25 September 2024, we received a report that a tractor had collided with a barrier at Wool Railway Station.

“Officers attended and Network Rail and the local authority were notified.

“No injuries were reported, and no arrests made and officers left the scene at around 8.20pm.”

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: "On Wednesday 25 September at 4.40pm, we observed a tractor colliding with the barrier at the level crossing by Wool Railway Station.

"This collision resulted in the barrier being broken and hanging over the railway tracks. Our teams worked as quickly as we could to replace the broken barrier and trains were able to run normally through the area after 8.30pm.

"It's frustrating we continue to see people recklessly risking their lives when crossing the railway. We really can't overemphasise the need to be aware of how dangerous level crossings can be if they aren't used properly.

"People can easily be seriously hurt or even killed, and too many families have already been affected tragically."
