PEOPLE across Somerset are being urged to find out more about how to prepare for emergencies, such as flooding, during this year’s Somerset Prepared Community Resilience Day.
The Environment Agency, Somerset Rivers Authority, Somerset Council and other organisations are hosting the free community drop-in day from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday 6 November at Bridgwater & Albion Rugby Club (TA6 4TZ).
At this annual event, people will have the opportunity to learn more about emergency preparedness and resilience through practical workshops and information stalls.
Lunch is provided and attendees will need to reserve a ticket. You can find out more at: https://bit.ly/4fhHrBo
This year, Mary Long-Dhonau OBE, also known as internet sensation ‘Flood Mary’, will be in attendance along with the Floodmobile, an interactive demonstration vehicle, offering attendees the chance to learn about the benefits of Property Flood Resilience (PFR).
The Environment Agency will also be on hand with workshops and presentations on how to prepare your home and community for flooding. Other sessions will include planning applications, case studies from Somerset communities, understanding riparian responsibilities, project funding and community engagement.
During the day, the Somerset Prepared Community Resilience Awards will be presented, recognising individuals and groups that have gone above and beyond to help their community to be better prepared for emergencies.
Emma Giffard, Environment Agency Flood Resilience Engagement Advisor, said: “The annual Somerset Prepared Community Resilience Day is a great opportunity for local communities to learn how to better protect themselves against flooding and other emergencies.
“By offering interactive workshops and personalised expert advice, we help people understand the steps they can take to become more resilient. It’s a chance to connect with specialists and local organisations dedicated to keeping Somerset safe. We encourage everyone to come along and get prepared.”
Somerset Prepared is a multi-agency partnership working closely with communities to deliver advice, support and training to help enhance local resilience to emergencies. The partnership is made up of many organisations able to provide advice, guidance and support to help you develop local initiatives that enhance resilience to emergencies.
