MASTITIS was the focus of a Devon Women In Dairy visit earlier this month.
The group took a trip to Gateshayes Farm in Whimple, East Devon, with a meeting entitled 'Mastitis - Challenges & Solutions'.
Devon Women In Dairy members learnt about on-farm management of mastitis, including bedding materials choices and slurry hoovers. They had a demonstration of how to California Milk Test (CMT) cows and interpret results, and how to take a sterile milk sample for culturing.

During lunch the group had a talk from Becca and Mark from Boehringer about the different types of mastitis and how to determine the best course of treatment and the impact on future lactations.
The Devon Women In Dairy group are planning to hold a social event in December.
