YOUNG farmers from Devon attended a harvest festival service earlier this week, and donated produce to Exeter Food Action.

The event was organised by Devon YFC and NFU Devon, and was held in Exeter Cathedral.

Members of Devon YFC also took part in a pillar decorating competition. The results of the competition were as follows:

  • 1st - East Devon
  • 2nd - North Devon
  • 3rd - Exe Valley

Exeter Food Action said the weight of the food donated was equivalent to 1,616 meals.

Dan Grist, County Chairman of Devon YFC, said: “Our Harvest Festival Service is the perfect opportunity to stop and appreciate the hard work of everyone working in the agricultural industry across the county.

“We have a close relationship with NFU Devon, so it’s always great to hold this annual event alongside them in Exeter Cathedral, which always looks spectacular thanks to our YFC pillar decorating competition.

“Members not only decorated the pillars, but also brought offerings that were then donated to Exeter Food Action.

"Andrew Kemp, a volunteer from Exeter Food Action, attended our county meeting a few days before and spoke about the incredibly vital work that they do across the county. We are very happy to have supported them this year.”
