CORNWALL YFC took home the trophy last Friday (November 1) after beating Devon YFC to win the Tamar Cup.

The teams played against one another for the first time at Launceston Rugby Club in Cornwall. Both counties formed rugby teams for the first time, drawing players from across their regions.

Cornwall beat Devon 7-5, and won the first ever Tamar Trophy, which was donated by Lodge & Thomas.

Cornwall's captain Andrew Rowe from Warleggan YFC accepted the trophy, and Sam Roberts from Wadebridge YFC was awarded Man of the Match.

A spokesperson from Cornwall YFC said: "The team played exceptionally well against tough competition, proudly wearing the black and gold kit, with the slogan ‘Onan hag Oll’….. ‘One and all’.

"We had a county wide team, including members from Praze, to Landrake, to Launceston, and in between, they showcased impressive teamwork, humility and great camaraderie - which is exactly what it’s all about, as well as, having lots of fun!

"Well done boys, thank you for representing Cornwall in such a brilliant manner as well as bringing home the trophy!"

Tickets for the event sold out quickly and it was a 'highlight' in the YFC calendar.

A spokesperson for Devon YFC added: "What a match. Cornwall YFC take home the first ever Tamar Cup in what is sure to become an annual fixture in the YFC calendar.

"A brilliant game, mutual respect and true YFC spirit."
