One of the country’s most illustrious estates will be home to a new Wiltshire therapy and healing centre after Wiltshire Council approved an application for one of its barns.
Bowden Park Estate is located five miles to the south-east of Chippenham and extends between Pewsham to its north and Bowden Hill to the south.
Recently approved plans will see its Grade II Listed Tithe Barn range transformed into “a programme of uses including mental health, physical health, nutrition, low-impact living, community and recovery.”

Bowden Park Estate was put on the market in 2020 at a guide price of £35 million and the new owners are carrying out wider work to dedicate the estate to “organic agricultural principles, self-sustenance, and a more ethical relationship to the land.”
The therapy and healing centre will be located on a historic farm complex near the main residence.

The application stated: “Dating from the 1800s, the Tithe Barn has suffered much damage and repair over the course of its lifetime, including a phase of re-roofing in the 1960s.”
It added: “The barn is understood to have been empty and redundant for approximately 30 years.”
The full estate includes around 68 acres of parkland, 303 acres of arable, 59 acres of pasture and 186 acres of woodland, surrounding the Georgian house’s 22 acres of grounds.
