A NEW county officer team was elected at the Dorset YFC annual general meeting (AGM) earlier this month. 

Young farmers gathered at the Frampton Village Hall on November 4. Katie Curtis from Bladford YFC was elected as new county chair, with Bethany Mitchell from Sherborne YFC becoming vice chair.

Joanna House from Marshwood Vale YFC, , who is also the current county treasurer, took on the role of junior vice chair.

The new county president is Ian Sargent and Sonia Cade is deputy vice president. 

Thanks were given to stepping down club officers - Amy Wonnacott and Andy Seare. The club also welcomed their new judge for the Efficiency Judge – Jennifer Curtis.

Ed Highnam Charity Award for Fundraising

  • 1st Marshwood Vale YFC donating £6286.88 to Cancer Research
  • 2nd Gillingham & Shaftesbury YFC donating £2200.00 to the Student Support Fund & Blood Bikes
  • 3rd Beaminster YFC donating £517.10 to the McMillian, Cancer Support and Air Ambulance Charities

Brig Hoblyn Cup for Recruitment

  • 1st – Jointly winning Puddletown YFC and Gillingham & Shaftesbury YFC with 20 new members each
  • 3rd Sherborne YFC with 29 members

R M Harris VA Stone – Senior Sports

Gillingham & Shaftesbury - for their double entry to the South West Area for both Ladies and Mens Tug of War.

Nick White Junior Sports Cup

Beaminster YFC - for their progression through Tug of War and going to South West Area with outside Tug of War competitions also taking place representing the club.

DCA Old Students Association

Sophie P from Gillingham & Shaftesbury - for her continued support to her club and county.

The Garrett Cup for Endeavour

Joanna H from Marshwood Vale YFC - for her continuous representation of Dorset YFC at nearly all competitions for her age group and assisting younger members to achieve the same thing.

Efficiency Cup

This cup was presented by Efficiency Judge Nick Sansom who visited clubs at the AGMs, assisted with training and also assisted with most events this year.  This competition is judged on how the clubs respond to new members, how efficient they are in organising their particular competitions for the year and also encouraging their members.

Upton Oil Points

This cup is given for those clubs who have gained the most points for entering competitions, helping at shows and attending meetings at both county level and South West Area level.

  • 2nd Place Puddletown YFC with 332 points
  • 3rd Place Gillingham & Shaftesbury YFC  with 286 points

FCN Outstanding Contribution to the Farming Community

This was a new trophy that was presented by the FCN this year with Bec Hill and Georgia Dyer attending to give the award.  This went to Tony M from Gillingham & Shaftesbury and it is for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Farming Community’ which is awarded for the care and compassion they have shown over the last year.
